This CoP event will introduce you to zSpace, an all-in-one AR/VR Computer. zSpace technology combines elements of AR and VR to create lifelike experiences on the computer that inspire curiosity, create engagement and deepen understanding. Creating engagement through exploration and experiential learning in a student-centered environment defines the zSpace Virtual Reality learning experience. zSpace encourages students to inquire, take risks, solve problems, and apply their learning while building confidence and expanding interest.
Participants will also see a demonstration by Rocky Chun Chung Cheung (HKU) on how zSpace is being adopted for cadaveric disection. Cadaveric dissection has been the gold standard in the teaching and learning of human anatomy. The use of cadavers has always been contentiously debated, with the financial burden, ethical controversies and health and safety concerns reason for a call for reform in the teaching style. In the last two to three decades, many novel pedagogies have been developed to help institutions rely less on cadaveric teaching. In particular, the advances in virtual reality (VR) technology has given anatomy teaching and learning a new dimension. The ability to create powerful visual simulation of the human body with users immersed in a virtual reality environment is something anatomy educators could only dream of in the past. The educational value and impact of VR is the focus of current research in this field.
