In recent years, with the advance in computing power, renewed effort has been made to "automatize" grading of homework assignments as well as exam scripts. In this talk, we outline some of the ideas involved and our preliminary thoughts in this direction. We also report on our progress so far.

Currently our goal is to design computer-assisted assessment software based on the open source software WeBWork. Our software is capable of "semi-automatically" grading students' math writings especially those related to simple proofs. As such, it involves some basic ideas from linguistics and mathematics and computer science.
