Implementing Course-Embedded Assessment

Evidence of student performance in terms of programme learning outcomes is collected largely from subjects included in the programme.

This series of three workshops focuses on three areas in helping subject teachers determine:
1. what existing student artifacts to collect for programme assessment purposes,
2.
what specific observations from such artifacts to evaluate, and
3. what and how the analysis results from the evaluation to present.

Workshop 1: Determining Artifacts of Student Performance for Programme Assessment

Facilitator: Jianrong Sun, EDC
Date:14 Sep 2009
Time:11:30 AM - 1:30 PM
Venue:TU616

This hands-on workshop will lead participants through a series of steps in determining what and how to determine student artifacts for programme assessment purposes.

The  focus will be on three factors of students’ artifacts concerning student performance: richness, representativeness, and measurableness.

Workshop 2: Evaluating/Assessing Students’ Artifacts (Student Performance) for Programme Assessment

Facilitator: Jianrong Sun, EDC
Date:19 Oct 2009
Time:12:30 PM - 2:30 PM
Venue:TU616

This hands-on workshop will lead participants through a series of steps in determining what specific observations from such artifacts to evaluate for programme assessment purposes.

The focus will be on identifying meaningful observation points in students’ artifacts, and assigning evaluation weight to such observation points (to determine their summative value).

Workshop 3: Interpreting and Presenting Course-Embedded Assessment Results for Programme Assessment

Facilitator: Jianrong Sun, EDC
Date:16 Nov 2009
Time:12:30 PM - 2:30 PM
Venue:TU616

This hands-on workshop will lead participants through a series of steps in determining what and how the evaluation analysis results to present for programme assessment purposes, with particular focus on results reporting (that is, is it accurate and adequate in the way students’ results are reported?).
