Becoming an Effective Teaching Assistant (BETA)


Registration will start at 10:00 am, 5 March and will be closed once available places are filled. You will receive a notification once you have successfully submitted the online application. A confirmation email will then be sent within a few days. Please note that multiple registrations may cause failure to your application. It takes time for the system and our team to sort and compile the application lists. Your patience and understanding is appreciated. BETA is offered 10-12 times throughout the year. Details of the Programme

The Programme

This programme is designed to equip candidates applying for Teaching Postgraduate Studentship (TPS) Scheme with the knowledge and skills to get started in supporting classroom teaching and enhancing student learning.

Intended Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the programme, participants will be able to:

  • Apply fundamental teaching skills to get off to a good start
  • Grade student work by established criteria
  • Give effective feedback to help students learn
  • Use English to interact, elicit and question in a classroom/tutorial setting
  • Plan and conduct tutorials

Duration and Certification

The programme is comprised of four face-to-face modules (10 hours in all). A Certificate of Completion will be awarded to participants who meet the completion requirements (attend ALL four modules and complete all in-class and out-of-class tasks).
